Saiga 223
by: K
Got mine for $290. Great gun, very reliable, and shoots pretty good. This is NOT a "AK knock off". They're made in Russia in the same factory, think of it more as a AK "Base model/lite". Little recoil, always fires, and fairly accurate.
Went to a range with a buddy who owns a AR15. At 50 yards I wasn't shooting quite as accurate, but he's in law enforcement. Either way, I paid a 1/3rd of what he did.

Predator Gun

Got one on a dare it was freakin cheap. Paid $249 plus tax about a year and a half ago. Did not think I could hit anything with it. Did not even clean it before hunting with it. Got a head shot on a coyote at 350 yards without a scope hard sights only, thats what I was aiming for. Trying to prove my buddies wrong about my Bushmaster, I thought that was the only 223 worth shooting. Now I love my Saiga. Kicks ass. Coyote was eating a dead crow we had brought down the day before with a 12 ga. We left it over night to see what we would get the next day. Feeds well, really reliable. I left it uncleaned in the back of my Jeep for a year or so. Pulled it out to fire it up. Put about another 500 rounds through it no hitches even with cheap ammo and still no clean. Silver Bear ammo. Can't shoot cheap ammo through my Bushmaster. Gets sticky and casings rip off sometimes. Inexpensive rounds man thats the way to go. Selling my Bushmaster, too tempermental of a fire arm. Got to keep it super clean all the time or you have problems. Looking for a 100% reliable truck gun and inexpensive this is it man. I am going out shooting today with my new Saiga .308 Win folding stock. Tell you how it goes. Got 1000 rounds cheap Wolf ammo. No problems with magazines. Got a 5 rnd surefire and a 20 rnd sure fire after market mag. 10 rnd factory mag works and loads no prblem

Saiga 223

Very accurate and reliable. Thats all that counts. Not a knock off AK. RAA makes the Saiga and the Veper is made by someone else. I forgett the manufacturer name. These are the rifles that the Russian Military uses. In America we tend to think if something is more expensive it is better. We have been conditioned that way. With this weapon you do not have to pay alot to get alot.

Alright

Very affordable and as such has some quality issues.
Good News: Very light on recoil, easy to clean and maintain. Accuracy is very very good. Synthetic stock makes it easy to shoulder for offhand shooting.
Bad News: Trigger pull is not crisp and may lag in between shots forcing you to force feed rounds or tease the trigger. Also the action does not hold open after the last round so you may find yourself faced with a surprising 'click' on empty if you dont count your shots.
A nice beginner 223 but budget wise that all it really is is a knock off AK. If you are serious, save up another $200 and get a real AK and you wont have to scrape up the money for an AR 15 which I just did. Oh well, she plinks just fine.
